\"NEBBI<\/a>Just a quick scan through the CMEA Search<\/a> page on the NEBBI site makes one fact abundantly clear: the machinery and equipment appraisal landscape is a male-dominated one. Maybe there\u2019s an overarching reason for that and maybe there isn\u2019t, but either way, that\u2019s how it is.<\/p>\n

Of course, the days of thinking that women are inferior to men at anything are long gone, and women have just as much chance of success in this field as their male counterparts. But how do clients react when a woman shows up to appraise a heavy piece of machinery or some equipment on a factory floor?<\/p>\n

Funny you should ask. A recent article titled \u201cA few minutes with \u2026 a woman who loves bulldozers\u201d in the Detroit Free Press spotlighted Theresa Shimansky, a machinery and equipment appraiser in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She was asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s the reaction when you show up at job sites?\u201d to which she responded, \u201cPeople look at me and go, \u2018You\u2019re the appraiser?\u2019\u201d When they ask, \u201cWell, what do you know about this equipment?\u201d she says, \u201cEnough to appraise it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Granted, not every woman in the appraisal business is actually out there in the field performing appraisals, but it\u2019s great to know that women like Theresa are out there shattering stereotypes and proving that they\u2019re every bit as capable as any man.<\/p>\n
