It is important to note that organizations exist to create value for their customers and shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>With that said how many of us are focusing our procurement activities and supplier selection processes to deliver on &#8220;Customer Requirements?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>Customer Requirement Matrix<\/strong> is a tool that can provide this level of visibility. We will examine the process and benefits of a CRM Matrix.<\/p>\n<p>A Customer Requirements Matrix is the formulation of a comprehensive prioritization of the most critical external customer requirements. These requirements are prioritized by the degree of importance to external customers and relative performance gaps. This practice results in an External Improvement Prioritization Index (E) IPI which enables the prioritization of requirements improvement projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The following is the CRM for a company that retails soup:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18999 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nextlevelpurchasing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CRM-Soup-Serve-1024x537.png\" alt=\"CRM Soup Serve\" width=\"1000\" height=\"524\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18998 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nextlevelpurchasing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/CRM-Soup-Serve-Numbers.png\" alt=\"CRM Soup Serve Numbers\" width=\"841\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The formulation of a Customer Requirement Matrix:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine the Top 3, 5, or 7 External Customer Requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Create descriptions of each requirement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 3:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine what to measure or appropriate metrics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 4:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine external customer expectations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 5:\u00a0<\/strong>Determine the key drivers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 6:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine the importance of the requirements to External Customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 7:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine the current performance levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 8:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine the current gap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 9:<\/strong>\u00a0Determine the (E)\u00a0<strong>IPI.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Step 10:<\/strong>\u00a0Prioritize requirements by largest (E)\u00a0<strong>IPI <\/strong>to smallest.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nBenefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It facilitates the capture and understanding of the Voice of the Customer <strong>(VOC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It creates a framework for value creation.<\/li>\n<li>It creates a focal point for Corporate Strategy, Tactical, and Operational Planning.<\/li>\n<li>It provides the impetus for Corporate &amp; Departmental Missions, Visions, and Values.<\/li>\n<li>It provides information for <strong>Cost Reduction Opportunities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It provides guidance on how to design internal processes and departments.<\/li>\n<li>It provides guidance on how to allocate limited resources.<\/li>\n<li>It provides inputs and data points for <strong>Supplier Selection Criteria.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>VOC = Voice of the Customer.
