This week, I\u2019ll be reviewing a whitepaper entitled \u201cDriving Savings from Indirect Spend\u201d from Ariba.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss updates on Procurement &amp; Supply Chain, Subscribe here!<\/p>\n<p>At the core of this whitepaper are five ingredients for successfully achieving savings on indirect spend categories. Those ingredients are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spend Access<\/li>\n<li>Proven Sourcing Process<\/li>\n<li>Category Expertise<\/li>\n<li>Electronic Sourcing Tool<\/li>\n<li>Compliance and Demand Management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This whitepaper is short \u2013 only 5 pages \u2013 so I can\u2019t elaborate too much without giving the whole whitepaper away. However, one thing that I think should be emphasized to executives who may not be completely in touch with what goes on \u201cin the trenches\u201d is the last point: compliance and demand management.<\/p>\n<p>The whitepaper points out that \u201cas much as 15 percent of identified savings are lost without effective compliance management processes.\u201d This means that the estimated savings can go right down the drain if your organization does not take action to ensure that its employees don\u2019t buy from the wrong suppliers, they do buy from the right suppliers, they don\u2019t buy what they don\u2019t really need, and the right suppliers charge the right price.<\/p>\n<p>The whitepaper closes with \u201c10 Things to Keep in Mind to Make Your Indirect Spend Initiative a Success.\u201d It\u2019s definitely a good overview of the things to consider when looking to indirect spend for savings.
