Today, I\u2019ll be reviewing a whitepaper entitled \u201cProcurement Innovation Part I: What\u2019s Next on the CPO\u2019s Agenda?\u201d from Denali.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss updates on Procurement &amp; Supply Chain, Subscribe here!<\/p>\n<p>The insights in this whitepaper are based on Denali\u2019s interviews with a few dozen chief procurement officers. According to the whitepaper, these interviews set out to identify:<br \/>\n\u00b7 Where CPOs will shift their focus during the next one to five years<br \/>\n\u00b7 What external factors will impact the CPO\u2019s agenda, and how<br \/>\n\u00b7 Procurement\u2019s most significant future challenges<br \/>\n\u00b7 The CPO \u201cwish list\u201d for innovation in Procurement<br \/>\n\u00b7 Likely Procurement innovations for the next three to five years<\/p>\n<p>I was a little disappointed that the findings on these topics didn\u2019t begin to get addressed until the next-to-last page of this 7-page whitepaper. And, then, was disappointed that not all of these points were addressed in this whitepaper. However, I did have to remind myself that it is Part I of a series, so that put things into perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The meat of this whitepaper comes in the form of three \u201cMajor Procurement Innovation Themes.\u201d The most powerful of these themes is the first one: \u201cExpanding Procurement\u2019s Value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The white paper reports that their panel of CPO\u2019s feel that \u201cProcurement is constrained by a singular focus on savings, and that their organizations can add much more value in other strategic areas to the business.\u201d The whitepaper cites time to market, brand management, revenue generation, and product innovation as four examples of strategic areas where procurement can add more value and explains each.<\/p>\n<p>While the whitepaper didn\u2019t dive too deep on the future of procurement, it definitely got me eagerly anticipating Part II of this series which will go into more detail on expanding procurement\u2019s value.
