{"id":3230,"date":"2013-03-25T20:22:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T20:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.certitrek.com\/nlpa\/2013\/03\/25\/information-as-a-negotiation-tool\/"},"modified":"2021-07-08T06:26:50","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T10:26:50","slug":"information-as-negotiation-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.certitrek.com\/nlpa\/blog\/information-as-negotiation-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Information As A Negotiation Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hope that you have enjoyed the article \u201cGetting &amp; Using Information In A Negotiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss updates on Procurement &amp; Supply Chain, Subscribe here!<\/p>\n<p>I gotta admit that, of the three negotiation tips I covered in the article, my personal favorite is \u201cDon\u2019t talk too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Imagine that you bought a lottery ticket on this same date last year.\u00a0 Say that lottery tickets are valid for exactly one year from the date of the drawing, down to the second.\u00a0 Imagine that you go into the convenience store where you bought the ticket to\u00a0check if it\u2019s a winner.\u00a0 You ask the clerk to explain how to use the machine that checks tickets\u00a0to determine whether they are winners or not.\u00a0 You mention that you bought the ticket one year ago today.\u00a0 As the clerk tries to expediently explain to you how to scan your ticket, you go on yapping and yapping about how you expect the clerk to give you very clear instructions on how to use the scanner and that the last time\u00a0someone explained how to use a scanner you were dissatisfied with their attitude and didn\u2019t they know who you were and how much money you spent at their store and that you would\u00a0gladly discontinue\u00a0doing business with the store you are standing in if you are unhappy with the clerk\u2019s instructions and yada, yada, yada.\u00a0 Finally, the clerk grabs your ticket and scans it\u00a0himself.\u00a0 The screen reads \u201cYour ticket was a winner, but\u00a0expired 10 seconds ago.\u00a0 Sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s similar to how you can talk too much in negotiation.\u00a0There may be a prize awaiting you if you\u2019d only stop to listen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hope that you have enjoyed the article \u201cGetting &amp; [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":4014,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3230","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-procurement"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v19.4 (Yoast SEO v19.13) -
