Campbell’s Soup announced last week its plans to close its oldest soup packaging plant, which is located in Sacramento, California. This is a loss for the area’s history because it has always been known as a large player in the canning industry and a loss for area workers. It’s always sad to see a plant close; however, people are eating fewer canned products in favor or fresh and frozen and Campbell’s Soup must respond to the market.

When a plant closes, no matter what the company chooses to do with the machinery or equipment inside the plant, a certified machinery and equipment appraiser (CMEA) has an important role to play. Equipment must be appraised if it is sold directly to another company, put up for auction, or even if it is scrapped or recycled.

Unfortunately, there have been a lot of plant closures over the last few years. We hope that being able to rely on CMEAs to give accurate appraisals takes one worry off the minds of the decision makers at these companies.
